Rustic resort. Not fancy. Affordable. It's the people that make the place great. There is a reason people have been coming back every year for generations.

This is my favorite place in the entire world. If you want to live in the northern woods for awhile, it's the place for you (and the dog)! If you can stand a bug or two (you ARE in nature afterall) then you will love it. It's not the type of place to come to if you are expecting to be pampered with a mint on your pillow. It is definitely a wonderful place to take the family and get away from all the noise and light pollution and enjoy yourself. The cabins are all different and I think I have stayed in 4 or 5 of them now, and I am working my way through hopefully all of them! The people who run it are extremely kind and welcoming, they make you feel like a local. Pet friendly and kid friendly, a beautiful lake to fish and swim in, and all around a fun property to explore. If you run out of something or need assistance with something in your cabin, all you need to do is ask. I love how people complain about little things (ie: bug in shower or no coffee pot) and will publicly complain on here rather than just ask the hosts. They are more than accommodating, they truly are family and if there is something you are not happy with just let them know and they will find a solution. This is just my favorite place ever and I can't wait to come back next year.

The owners are amazing down to earth people, as well as other guests. The resort itself is a hidden jewel of Wisconsin, it's like one you'd see in movies where everyone acts like family and has a smile. I can't say one negative thing about Idle Hour after my seven years of going up there. I can't see myself not going there annually. I can only hope to be able to one day share the things I love about Doug and Rita's place with my family one day.

Idle Hour is one of the best places on planet earth. It is a wonderful place to go and relax for however long you please. Most cabins have a rustic vibe and a lot of them have a view of a wonderful lake. If you don’t have a view of the lake, you can still get to it very easily. You are surrounded by beautiful nature and very friendly people. You can do many activities like horseshoes, bonfires, swimming, and so much more. You can head to the lodge to get some drinks, food, and ice cream. There are also restaurants near by. There is a playground for the kids, as well as a big open space to run around. The place is very dog friendly, and there is a cute cat named Earl. My family has been going up for years and it is just such a good atmosphere with amazing people, pets, and a fun time. If I didn’t go one year, I would regret it. Highly recommend Idle Hour.

A laid back, quiet campground with a couple boat docks. There’s a really charming little tavern in the middle of the place. Rita is a fantastic host!
